2027 Five-Star Guard King Gibson Continues Rise as National Powerhouses Enter Recruitment
Few players in the 2027 class have elevated their stock this spring quite like King Gibson.
The 6-foot-4 guard out of SPIRE Academy (OH) has cemented himself as one of the premier backcourt prospects in the country after a productive spring with Team United on the Nike EYBL circuit. Already regarded as a consensus top-10 prospect nationally, Gibson's recruitment has accelerated significantly over the last several weeks as blue blood programs continue to enter the mix.
Most recently, Gibson added offers from Indiana, Syracuse, Arkansas, Kentucky, UConn, and Auburn, further strengthening what has become one of the most impressive offer sheets in the entire 2027 class. Schools such as Michigan, North Carolina, Houston, NC State, Alabama, and Baylor have also been heavily involved in his recruitment.
Spring EYBL Breakdown
Gibson has been one of the most consistent guards on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring for Team United.
Through the opening EYBL sessions, he has averaged approximately 16.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting better than 53 percent from the field and over 50 percent from three-point range. During Session II in Memphis, Gibson averaged 16.8 points while knocking down 60 percent of his three-point attempts.
What stands out most about Gibson's game is his efficiency. He doesn't force offense and rarely looks rushed despite carrying a significant scoring load. His ability to create quality shots both on and off the ball has made him one of the toughest guards in the 2027 class to defend.
At 6-foot-4 with good length and strength, Gibson possesses ideal positional size for a lead guard. He can initiate offense, operate in pick-and-roll situations, and make reads as a facilitator, but he's equally dangerous when playing off the ball and hunting scoring opportunities.
His perimeter shooting has taken a major leap over the last year. Defenders are now forced to respect his range well beyond the three-point line, opening driving lanes where he uses excellent pace and body control to finish through contact.
Gibson's basketball IQ is another area that separates him from many players his age. He plays with poise, rarely speeds himself up, and consistently makes the correct reads in transition and half-court settings. Coaches have also praised his versatility and defensive upside, as he has the tools to guard multiple backcourt positions.
Simply put, Gibson checks nearly every box evaluators look for in a modern lead guard.
Indiana Enters the Picture
Indiana officially extended an offer earlier this spring, becoming one of the latest high-major programs to jump into the race.
The Hoosiers view Gibson as one of the premier guards in the country and a potential centerpiece of their future recruiting efforts. Indiana's staff has prioritized elite backcourt talent early in the 2027 cycle, and Gibson immediately became one of the top names on its board.
Kentucky's Pursuit
Kentucky joined Gibson's recruitment in a major way during May.
The Wildcats had been monitoring him for nearly a year before officially offering following a strong EYBL showing. Kentucky's staff views Gibson as a true point guard despite his scoring ability and believes his combination of playmaking and shot creation fits perfectly within its system. New assistant Mo Williams has become a key figure in the recruitment, maintaining regular communication with Gibson.
Arkansas and Auburn Making Pushes
Arkansas recently entered the mix as well, extending an offer shortly after evaluating Gibson during the live period. The Razorbacks continue to prioritize dynamic guards who can create offense, making Gibson a natural target. Auburn has also joined the growing list of programs attempting to position themselves early in his recruitment.
Syracuse and UConn Looking to Build Relationships
Both Syracuse and UConn have intensified their efforts this spring.
Syracuse officially offered in May after tracking Gibson throughout the evaluation period and sees him as one of the elite guards available nationally. UConn has emerged as another serious contender and is expected to receive a visit in the future as the Huskies continue building a relationship with the talented guard.
Recruitment Outlook
While Gibson's recruitment remains in the early stages, several programs appear to have positioned themselves well heading into the summer.
Michigan has generated significant buzz following multiple interactions and a visit to Ann Arbor. UConn, Indiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, and NC State are among the schools pushing hardest, while additional blue blood programs are expected to continue evaluating him throughout the summer.
With his combination of size, scoring ability, shooting touch, playmaking instincts, and maturity, it's easy to understand why college coaches view Gibson as one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 class.
As the EYBL season continues and the recruiting spotlight grows brighter, expect the list of schools pursuing King Gibson to keep expanding. Right now, he looks every bit like a future impact college guard and one of the premier talents in the nation regardless of class.
