2027 4-Star King Rachal Wraps Up Official Visit to San Diego State
The recruitment of 2027 four-star wing King Rachal continues to heat up, and the rising California prospect recently got an up-close look at one of the programs making a strong push for his services.
Rachal spent the weekend in San Diego for his official visit to San Diego State, visiting campus from August 28-30 as the Aztecs look to establish themselves as a serious contender in his recruitment. The visit was an important opportunity for Rachal to get a better feel for the program, coaching staff, campus and what his future could look like in San Diego.
A Rapid Rise Up the Rankings
Rachal has become one of the biggest stock risers in the 2027 class over the past year.
The 6-foot-7 wing from California was not viewed as a major national recruit a year ago, but his performances on the grassroots circuit helped push him firmly into four-star territory and onto the radar of numerous high-major programs.
Rachal brings a versatile skill set to the wing. He has shown the ability to knock down shots, attack off the bounce, defend multiple positions and use his athleticism around the basket. He has also described himself as someone who can guard positions one through five, highlighting the defensive versatility that has helped make him such an intriguing prospect.
Why San Diego State?
For the Aztecs, landing Rachal would be a major recruiting victory.
San Diego State has been involved with Rachal for some time and made the official visit a priority. The Aztecs hosted Rachal during the same weekend as 6-foot-11 2027 big man Precious Sam, giving the program an opportunity to showcase its vision for the future and its plans for the next generation of the roster.
Rachal's fit at SDSU is particularly intriguing because of his ability to impact the game without needing to dominate the ball. His defensive activity, athleticism and willingness to play within a team concept could make him an excellent fit for a program that has built its identity around toughness, versatility and winning basketball.
The Aztecs are also preparing for a new era of competition in the Pac-12, making the 2027 recruiting class particularly important. Rachal would give the program a high-level perimeter piece capable of contributing in multiple areas.
Recruitment Continues
San Diego State is one of several programs firmly involved in Rachal's recruitment.
His official visit schedule has already included a trip to USC, while Oregon is scheduled to host him September 4-6 and Utah State is set to welcome him September 24-27. He has also received offers from programs including UCLA, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Washington, SMU, Virginia Tech, Grand Canyon, New Mexico and Oregon State.
Despite the growing list of programs involved, Rachal has not established a commitment timeline. His approach has been to take his visits, experience each program and determine which school ultimately feels like the right fit.
That makes the San Diego State visit especially important. The Aztecs now have an opportunity to build on the relationship developed during the weekend and remain firmly in the conversation as Rachal works through the next stages of his recruitment.
The Bottom Line
Rachal's visit to San Diego State was another significant step in what has quickly become one of the more intriguing recruitments in the 2027 class.
The four-star wing has gone from an under-the-radar prospect to a nationally recruited Top-50 caliber player, and his combination of size, athleticism, defensive versatility and developing offensive game gives him considerable upside at the next level.
With more official visits still ahead, Rachal's recruitment is far from over. But after getting an extended look at San Diego State, the Aztecs have positioned themselves as a program worth watching closely as one of California's top 2027 prospects moves toward his eventual college decision.
