Top-15 Prospect Xavier Young Seeing Recruitment Explode Since 2028 Contact Period Opened
The moment college coaches were officially permitted to begin contacting the Class of 2028, one of the nation's premier big men immediately became one of the busiest prospects in the country.
Standing 6-foot-10 with tremendous length, mobility and upside, Xavier Young has quickly become one of the hottest names in the sophomore class. The Faith Family Academy (TX) standout is currently viewed as one of the nation's top 15 overall prospects. That national reputation has translated directly into scholarship opportunities.
Since the June contact period began, Young has added an impressive list of high-major offers that stretches across nearly every major conference. Indiana, Alabama, Florida State, Texas, Providence and Cincinnati are among the programs that have officially entered the race, joining an already impressive list of schools pursuing one of the nation's most intriguing frontcourt prospects. Reports have also connected programs such as Baylor, Georgia and Arizona State to his recruitment as his stock continues to climb.
Indiana enters the mix
Indiana became one of the latest blue-blood programs to offer Young, continuing the Hoosiers' emphasis on adding elite size to future recruiting classes. New head coach Darian DeVries and his staff have made frontcourt talent a priority, and Young fits exactly what modern college basketball covets.
His combination of size, athleticism and fluid movement allows him to impact the game well beyond the paint. Rather than simply being a traditional post player, Young runs the floor with ease, protects the rim and has the tools to eventually stretch his offensive game as he continues to develop.
National powers continue to pile on
Indiana is far from alone.
Alabama, Texas, Florida State, Providence and Cincinnati have all jumped into Young's recruitment since coaches were allowed to initiate direct contact with 2028 prospects. That growing offer list illustrates just how highly college programs value his long-term upside.
Programs are betting on a prospect who already possesses elite physical tools while still having significant room for development. At 6-foot-10, Young changes shots around the basket, rebounds at a high level and finishes efficiently inside. As his skill set expands, many evaluators believe his ceiling is even higher than his current national ranking suggests.
Why coaches are so intrigued
Young's appeal starts with his rare physical profile.
He moves exceptionally well for his size, runs the floor effortlessly and consistently impacts both ends of the court. Defensively, he projects as a rim protector capable of switching in space, while offensively he finishes above the rim, rebounds through contact and continues to polish his overall skill package.
Playing at Faith Family Academy, one of Texas' premier high school basketball programs, also gives him the opportunity to compete against elite competition on a nightly basis, accelerating his development against some of the country's best talent.
Recruitment only getting started
Considering the recruiting period has only recently opened for the Class of 2028, Young's recruitment appears to be just scratching the surface.
With multiple national powers already extending scholarship offers and several other high-major programs actively involved, his list is expected to continue growing throughout the summer and into the fall. As one of the nation's top-ranked sophomores, Xavier Young has firmly established himself as one of the premier frontcourt recruits in the 2028 class, and one that college basketball's biggest brands will continue to prioritize moving forward.
