CJ Rosser Cuts Recruitment to Top 7
The recruitment of 2027 five-star forward CJ Rosser has reached an important stage.
Rosser, widely regarded as one of the premier prospects in the country, has trimmed his recruitment to seven schools: North Carolina, Kentucky, Miami, Louisville, NC State, USC and Arkansas. The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native announced the finalists as he prepares for an official-visit stretch that could ultimately shape the direction of his recruitment.
A Versatile Frontcourt Talent
What makes Rosser such an intriguing prospect is his combination of size, athleticism and versatility.
Now listed around 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Rosser has the physical tools to impact games on both ends of the floor. He can attack closeouts, finish around the basket, run the floor and play above the rim, while also showing the ability to stretch defenses.
Defensively, his length gives him the ability to guard multiple positions and disrupt plays away from the ball. His athleticism also allows him to be a legitimate lob threat and transition finisher.
North Carolina
North Carolina has been one of the most closely watched programs in Rosser's recruitment.
The Tar Heels offered Rosser in March 2025 under former head coach Hubert Davis, and he made his first unofficial visit to Chapel Hill later that year. Despite the coaching transition, Rosser's interest in UNC has remained strong.
More recently, Rosser returned to Chapel Hill and continued building a relationship with new head coach Michael Malone and the Tar Heel staff. UNC has been viewed by multiple recruiting analysts as a major factor in the race, making the Tar Heels one of the programs to watch closely as the recruitment progresses.
Kentucky
Kentucky has also made a significant impression.
The Wildcats offered Rosser during the 2025 recruiting cycle, and Mark Pope's staff has continued to pursue him aggressively. One of the more notable developments in the recruitment came when Pope and assistant Mikhail McLean spent time fishing with Rosser, showing the relationship-building aspect of Kentucky's pursuit.
Kentucky is scheduled to host Rosser October 1-2 during Big Blue Madness, giving the Wildcats an opportunity to make a major impression at an important point in the recruitment.
NC State
NC State represents another major factor, particularly given Rosser's North Carolina roots.
The Wolfpack hosted Rosser for an unofficial visit in May, when he was regarded as the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class by some major outlets. His upcoming official visit to Raleigh will give NC State another opportunity to strengthen its position with one of the nation's top prospects.
Louisville
Louisville has been involved in Rosser's recruitment for some time and made enough of an impression to survive the cut to seven.
The Cardinals previously hosted Rosser on an unofficial visit, and their inclusion alongside Kentucky, UNC and NC State gives Rosser several prominent ACC/SEC options with strong basketball traditions to consider.
Miami
Miami has also positioned itself as a serious contender.
The Hurricanes are scheduled to host Rosser on September 25, placing Miami directly in the middle of his upcoming official-visit schedule. The opportunity to compete for a player with Rosser's size and versatility gives Miami a chance to make a significant move.
Arkansas
Arkansas remains another intriguing option.
The Razorbacks have continued to pursue Rosser as one of the premier frontcourt prospects in the country, and he is scheduled to visit Arkansas on September 28. That visit will come during a crucial stretch of his recruitment, with several of his finalists hosting him within a short period.
USC
USC rounds out the final seven.
The Trojans have been involved with Rosser throughout his recruitment and now have the opportunity to host him as an official visitor. USC is scheduled for October 4, shortly after Kentucky's visit, creating an especially busy stretch for Rosser as he evaluates his remaining options.
