Night One Standout: Jaxon Richardson Makes His Mark at Nike EYBL Session I
The opening night of Nike EYBL Session I was packed with energy, but Florida Rebels wing Jaxon Richardson made a huge statement. In a dominant 22-point, 8-rebound performance against a tough ProSkills squad, Richardson showed why he’s quickly becoming one of the most talked-about prospects in the country.
From the opening tip, it was clear that Richardson’s athleticism was on a different level. The 6'6" wing exploded in transition, finishing above the rim with authority and putting relentless pressure on the defense. His vertical pop wasn’t just for show — it changed the tempo of the game. Every time ProSkills missed a shot, Richardson was a threat to turn it into a highlight on the other end.
But it wasn’t just the athleticism that stood out. Richardson displayed an impressive overall skill set that allowed him to take over when the Rebels needed it most. He scored in a variety of ways — slashing to the basket, hitting midrange pull-ups, and even stepping out to knock down a couple of timely jumpers. His ball-handling has taken a clear step forward, allowing him to create for himself and others, as evidenced by his two assists.
Defensively, Richardson’s length and quick-twitch instincts were a problem all night for ProSkills. He registered two blocks, altered several other shots, and crashed the glass hard on both ends. His ability to switch onto smaller guards or bang with bigger wings made him invaluable in the Rebels' defensive schemes.
Simply put, Jaxon Richardson’s athleticism provided the fireworks, but his polish and maturity as a player are what truly separated him on Night One. If this performance is any indication, Richardson is poised for a monster spring on the EYBL circuit.
