2028 CG Houston Rolle Exclusive Interview

Class of 2028 combo guard Houston Rolle is already carving out a name for himself on the West Coast, and his sophomore campaign at Heritage Christian (CA) was a clear step forward. A poised, confident guard with a growing feel for the game, Rolle showed flashes of being a true three-level scorer while taking on more responsibility as the season wore on. His ability to create offense for himself and others, paired with a competitive edge on both ends of the floor, made him one of the more intriguing young guards in his class.

In this interview, we break down Rolle’s most recent high school season, dive into the strengths that define his game, and explore how he continues to evolve as a combo guard. He also opens up about the players he models his game after, his mindset as a young prospect, and what he’s focused on improving as he looks ahead to the next stage of his development.

Breakdown and recap your high school season. What were some highs for you personally and as a team? What do you feel you accomplished?

HR: “I thought we had a great season. Overall since we were such a young team, I thought we did really well. We had two freshmen, Two sophomores, and a junior in our starting lineup and we beat some really good teams. We accomplished a lot and I am super proud of how we played as a group throughout the whole year.”

You are known for your ability to play multiple roles on a team, whether you take on the responsibility of guarding the opposing team's player, or being the main source of offense. What is your mindset when you get your official assignment before a game?

HR: “I always want to support my teammates and be the best help to the team as possible, that is my main concern. I try to be as consistent as I can in whatever role I am assigned. I feel like I contribute in all ways on the court and help my team win games.”

For someone who has never watched you play before, how would you describe your game?

HR: “I feel like I can do it all when I step onto the floor. I try to model my game after guys like Anthony Edwards, Tracy McGrady, Jayston Tatum. I take bits and pieces from their games and try to put it into mine, giving myself an advantage at all levels of the game. I am a great rebounding guard, which helps on both sides of the ball. My best attribute is my playmaking though. I love getting my teammates involved and making the game easier for them. At the same time, it opens up the game for me as well on offense, so it really works out.”

What are some areas of your game that you want to improve?

HR: “There are two things I really want to improve. Like I said before, I think I am a really good playmaker, but there is always room for improvement. The better the playmaker I am, the better my teammates get, and the more games we win. Defensively I always feel like you can improve, but I really want to master it. At the next level, being a great two way threat earns you minutes.”

How would you pitch yourself to a college coach?

HR: “Outside of basketball I am a really cool person. I am someone you can hangout with, grab some food, whatever it may be. I am really laid back. As a basketball player, I am a guy that is going to give it my all when I am on the floor. Whatever my job is, it is going to get done. I have a really high basketball IQ, so I am a player that you can always trust when I am in the game. Really just a guy that loves to win and play basketball.”
