2027 Top-150 Guard Peyton Kemp Emerging as a True Floor General

In a class loaded with upside guards, few bring the combination of poise, leadership, and late-game shot-making that Peyton Kemp consistently shows.

The 6-foot-2 point guard out of La Lumiere (IN) has quietly positioned himself as one of the more intriguing floor generals in the 2027 class. A Michigan native now playing on one of the country’s premier prep stages, Kemp is currently ranked inside the national Top 150 and continues to see his recruitment steadily build.

Recruitment Trending Up

Kemp’s recruitment is still in the early stages, but momentum is clearly forming.

He tells us at DSTRKT Digital that three programs are prioritizing him the most right now:

  • Arkansas State

  • Old Dominion

  • Toledo Rockets

All three programs have already extended offers and have made him a consistent priority in communication.

Kemp has also taken visits to multiple campuses, including Toledo, Arkansas State, and Old Dominion, signaling genuine mutual interest as programs look to build early relationships.

While high-major attention is still developing, schools like Florida State and Rutgers have also shown interest, indicating his recruitment could expand quickly with continued production.

Game Breakdown: A True Point Guard

Kemp’s identity starts with his feel for the game.

He’s a true point guard in every sense, someone who prioritizes making the right read, controlling tempo, and elevating teammates. Evaluators consistently describe him as a pass-first floor general who can still score when needed.

Strengths

Playmaking & IQ
Kemp thrives in pick-and-roll situations, reading defenses and delivering accurate passes. His decision-making stands out, especially for a player still early in his high school career.

Poise Under Pressure
One of Kemp’s defining traits is his composure late in games. In a recent evaluation, he knocked down a clutch three and followed it with a game-winning assist in overtime, showcasing both confidence and unselfishness.

Three-Level Scoring Ability
While he’s naturally pass-first, Kemp can score at all three levels. He’s comfortable pulling up, attacking the rim, or spacing the floor when defenses sag.

Leadership & Energy
Kemp brings noticeable intensity and emotion to the floor. He communicates, competes defensively, and plays with a motor that impacts both ends.

Areas for Growth

Like most young guards, consistency will be key. Kemp has shown flashes of high-level playmaking and scoring, but continuing to string together complete performances will determine how quickly his recruitment rises into the high-major tier.

Adding strength and improving efficiency as a scorer will also elevate his profile as he faces stronger national competition.

The Bigger Picture

Playing for Indy Heat Gym Rats on the EYBL circuit and competing at Nike EYBL events gives Kemp a major platform moving forward.

With his combination of feel, leadership, and clutch ability, he fits the mold of a guard that college programs value, especially in systems that rely on decision-making and ball movement.

As his recruitment continues to grow, expect more programs to enter the mix. For now, Arkansas State, Old Dominion, and Toledo are leading the charge, but that list likely won’t stay small for long.
